Nasi=steamed rice, Lemak=oil. In short, Nasi lemak is oily rice.

Actually, it is a dish to eat with rice and slightly hot sambal sauce, a small fish, a peanut, the boiled egg which cooked with coconut milk.
An oil of the coconut milk of "Lemak" think whether is of it origin. It is wrapped in a pyramid type and, in Malaysia, is sold to the leaf of the banana in basic dishes of the breakfast well in Kota Kinabalu.
